Category Change
Change or add a category
A category change can be made when the driver holds category B and wants to move to C or D. Adding a category happens when a licensed driver takes the course to include category A.
Drivers and holders of a learner's permit may apply, as long as they have not committed a serious or very serious traffic offense, or repeated medium offenses, in the twelve months before the request. Candidates who work or will work in paid transport of goods or people must also take a new psychological evaluation (EAR).
Categories at a glance
- A — motor vehicles with two or three wheels
- B — vehicles up to 3,500 kg and up to 8 passenger seats besides the driver
- D — passenger transport, school transport or more than 8 passenger seats
- E — vehicle combinations with a trailer or articulated unit of 6,000 kg or more
